The brilliantly coloured tree is an Amur Maple that originates from China.
In the 1960s, City Council, stated that the park looked “ancient” and started a modernization plan. In doing so, I have always thought there was a “sale” when they bought these trees – there are (at least) 15 planted in the park.

Melville Avenue is adjacent to Westmount Park. Tonight as we walked down the street, it offered a beautiful sunset and the fall colours from a black maple.
It may be only be only six thirty in the evening, and it’s “pitch dark” – however, one can still appreciate the park’s beauty.

One doesn’t have to go to the Caribbean to enjoy beautiful sunsets – this time of year they occur in our back yards!
The park’s maple and crab apple trees are providing a palette of colours this time of year – reminding us that autumn has arrived!
