Lord Kitchener was born in a place called Co Kerry, Ireland; not far from where I live ! His father had invested in land , more speculatively than any other reason, and I believe the family moved back to England when Kitchener was a boy. He was destined for a military career, and his portrait was used extensively to attract volunteers into the British army before and during WW1. Towards the end of the war Kitchener lost his life when the ship he was travelling on was torpedoed in the North Sea. A dreadful war, accounting for such a terrible loss of life.
